Dropping the Bomb
Assignment: Students will write a blog post (5-7 sentences) arguing whether or not America should have used the atomic bomb. Students must include at least 3 reasons defending their position. Students should use the graphic organizer completed on the notes handout. Students will post in the comments section below. Be sure to include your name at the end of the post.

Dropping the atomic bomb was the best decision Truman made about the war. As a result of dropping the atomic bombs the Japanese surrendered and the war was over. While, there were many alternative possibilities, each would have prolonged the war and caused the death of more American soldiers. While using the atomic bomb led to a high casualty rate of Japanese, it was Truman’s responsibility to protect Americans, not the Japanese, who attacked us when we were not part of the war. Truman viewed the atomic bomb as a weapon and decided to go forward with its purpose. Dropping the atomic bombs allowed for a faster Japanese surrender that saved American soldiers.
